Governing body the FIA has confirmed that the 2013 Formula 1 calendar will feature 19 races, with the additional 21 July slot being officially removed at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday.
The extra Grand Prix was added at the end of last year to cover for the postponed New Jersey street race, an event which will now be staged for the first time in 2014. A number of countries showed interest in joining the roster, including Austria, France, Portugal and Turkey, but the FIA stated on Friday that a deal had not been reached.
Last month, Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone explained that negotiations for a 20th Grand Prix had been called off. The now fixed calendar kicks off at Albert Park next weekend, running through to the Brazilian Grand Prix in late November.
