In the wake of a bizarre string of tyre failures at the British Grand Prix, a selection of drivers stepped forward to raise safety concerns and call for changes ahead of the next race. GPUpdate.net has compiled their thoughts for an all-in-one reaction.
Mark Webber / Red Bull
2nd position - 3 pit-stops
"What a day! When you have something like that, it's Russian Roulette; when you see that many tyre issues for the fellow competitors then it's never comforting."
Lewis Hamilton / Mercedes
4th position - 2 pit-stops
"The safety is the biggest issue; it's unacceptable. We had that tyre test [at Barcelona] to develop and improve the tyres to stop that from happening and after that tyre test they didn't do anything. Someone could've crashed. I was thinking behind the safety car that it's only when someone gets hurt that something will be done about it."
Felipe Massa / Ferrari
6th position - 4 pit-stops
"Our greatest concern revolves around safety; even if I can’t really tell what happened, it’s unacceptable having to drive knowing you are not safe. Even if nothing serious happened, what we saw is very dangerous. I had this problem twice in Bahrain and if something isn’t done about it as soon as possible, I am sure it will happen again."
Daniel Ricciardo / Toro Rosso
8th position - 2 pit-stops
"I don't know what was happening with the tyres, as I kept seeing people going off the track and there was debris everywhere. It was a little bit dangerous and we need to look into it. For my part, I just had normal degradation."
Jenson Button / McLaren
12th position - 2 pit-stops
"For safety reasons, the reasons behind this weekend's tyre failures need to be addressed. It's dangerous for the driver of the car, because he can lose control; but it's also dangerous for the driver of the car behind, because you can get hit by a belt of rubber. Hopefully, things can be changed for the next race [at the Nürburgring]."
Sergio Pérez / McLaren
DNF - 2 pit-stops
"It is unacceptable; the tyres are a big concern. Luckily nothing too serious happened, but we need to sit down together, get an explanation and get something done."
Jean-Éric Vergne / Toro Rosso

"I did not feel any warning signs, it just let go under braking. The car was very difficult to drive from then on and in the end, the team took the decision to retire me. I did not feel in danger, but it's a shame that this sort of problem can waste a whole weekend's work. I am very upset about it; something needs to be done about it soon."
