Lotus E22 Twin Prong Nose

Unique in appearance, the twin-prong nose on Lotus's E22 car is a clever solution to the new rules governing the height of the front impact structure. As you can see in the drawing, one of the 'prongs' is longer than the other (1) and, we can deduce, is at least 90mm wide in order to meet the requirements of the regulations.

However, this prong also functions as both a wing support and a turning vane (2). Lotus have retained their complex, three-element endplates for 2014 (3), but have brought these and the other wing elements inwards to provide better alignment with the front tyres (indicated by yellow-highlighted area), given the narrower front wings this season.
