Well, what can I say, here we are at the last race of 2019, at my home circuit in Abu Dhabi
After the last few brilliant races, I'm sure that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will deliver a spectacular race. Knowing the circuit well, the utmost best overtaking points are as follows:
After the last few brilliant races, I'm sure that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will deliver a spectacular race. Knowing the circuit well, the utmost best overtaking points are as follows:
Sector 1: Turn 01 - This will definitely be a favourite for the drivers, directly after the start of the race, and again during the first few laps, to make up as many places as possible, before DRS is activated
Sector 2: Turns 05, 06 & 07: Another driver favourite before DRS kicks in
Sector 2: Turn 08 & 09: When DRS does finally come into play, this will be one of two main overtaking spots. Persons sitting at the end of the West Grand Stand will have a spectacular view of this.
Sector 3: Turn 11, 12 & 13: After the second straight, there is yet again chance for overtaking after DRS
There are however a few other places where drivers can overtake, such as Turns 17, 18 & 19, just before going underneath the W Hotel.
Grand Stand Seating
Twice I've attended an F1 Weekend at Yas Marina circuit, and my wife and father-in-law had the privilege to have been given free tickets to the Friday Practice sessions for this year, They were lucky enough to witness on-track action at the West Grandstand. From here you can see the end of the main straight, as well as see the Main Pit straight.
In 2012, I attended the race for the first time and was seated in the Main Grandstand, directly opposite the pit lane. This was great, as you could see all of the teams working on their cars, as well as seeing all of the pitstops.
By far my most favourite place to watch the race would be the Marina Grandstand, overlooking the South Circuit, the Marina and the W Hotel. From here I watched the 2017 Grand Prix, where I witnessed a victory for Valterri Bottas, as well as the final race for Charles Leclerc when he took victory in Race 2 in Formula 2. This was when the Formula 2 cars were all still powered by naturally aspirated V8's and were a LOT Louder than the F1 cars.
But by far my favourite part of the Yas Marina Circuit has to be the atmosphere. Speaking with like-minded F1 and race enthusiasts, you can feel that there are a few people that attend the Grand Prix weekend, with one thing in mind: To witness racing from F1, F2 and GP3 (Now F3) race cars, going around the circuit, battling for on-track position.
I think this year's F1 race will serve up spectacular action! Looking forward to it!
